EU and Germany Launch Forest Restoration Project in Vietnam

The Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the European Union and the Federal Republic of Germany inaugurated a joint forest‑restoration programme on 7 August 2026. Funded with €20 million from the EU and an additional €7.5 million from Germany’s BMZ, the project will run from 2026 to 2030 and target natural forests in Vietnam’s north‑west and Central Highlands. Implementation will focus on five provinces – Sơn La, Điện Biên, Quảng Ngãi, Gia Lai and Đắk Lắk – and aims to conserve, restore and manage forests sustainably, develop climate‑resilient forest value chains and support the livelihoods of roughly 25 million people who depend on forest resources. The Vietnamese Forestry and Inspection Agency will cooperate with the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and EU partners to deliver the programme’s objectives.
