EU and North Macedonia ice cream production and trade trends

Data from Eurostat and the State Statistical Office of North Macedonia reveal trends in ice cream production and consumption. In 2025, the European Union produced 3.44 billion liters of ice cream, a 1.9% increase from 2024. Germany remains the largest producer in the EU with 608 million liters, followed by Italy (549 million liters) and France (525 million liters). Italy saw the highest growth rate among top producers at 10%.

Regarding trade, EU ice cream exports rose by 10% to 289.8 million kilograms, with France leading as the largest exporter.

In North Macedonia, the country maintains a trade surplus in the sector. While annual household consumption is estimated at approximately 3.1 million kilograms, the nation exports significantly more than it consumes domestically. Statistics show a steady increase in per capita consumption in North Macedonia, rising from 1.1 kg in 2021 to 1.4 kg in 2024.
