EU and Spain allocate over €2.6 bn to clean‑energy projects across Europe

The Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition (MITECO) has granted €162 million to 40 industrial projects focused on clean‑technology equipment, including a €81 million battery gigafactory planned in Navarra. The funding, drawn from the NextGenEU component of the Recovery Plan, aims to strengthen Spain’s domestic supply chain for wind, solar, hydrogen and storage technologies.

Separately, the European Commission and the European Investment Bank have disbursed €2.5 billion from the Modernisation Fund to finance 51 renewable‑energy and efficiency projects in eleven EU member states. The largest national allocations go to Romania, Hungary and the Czech Republic, with additional support for grid upgrades, electric‑bus conversions and geothermal heating in countries such as Greece, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Croatia, Portugal, Slovenia and others. Both initiatives are intended to accelerate the EU’s energy transition, reduce reliance on fossil fuels and boost local employment in the green‑technology sector.
