EU and Vietnam advance child online safety measures

German family organisations have urged the European Union to adopt the proposed European Child Sexual Abuse Regulation (CSA‑R) that aims to prevent, detect and prosecute online sexual abuse of children. The draft, linked to the Digital Services Act, is being debated amid concerns about privacy‑invasion versus stronger child protection.

In Vietnam, the government launched Children’s Action Month 2026 in Quang Ninh under the theme “Happy, Safe Children Confidently Step into the Digital Era.” Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan said protecting children online “has become an urgent requirement,” and UNICEF’s Silvia Danailov highlighted the need for digital literacy, self‑protection skills and coordinated efforts among families, schools and authorities.

Both initiatives stress balancing children’s right to privacy with the need for effective safeguards against cyber‑grooming, bullying, fraud and exploitation.
