EU braces for trade conflict as Chinese goods flood European markets
The European Union is confronting a surge of Chinese products after the United States imposed tariffs and import bans on China. Chinese electric vehicles are now ready for export from the Hangzhou port, and a wide range of automobiles, machinery and electronic components are entering Europe at lower prices due to favourable exchange rates and state subsidies.
Strategy expert Tobias Gehrke warned that “the China shock is now really hitting Europe,” arguing that the influx threatens the survival of European industry. He says the EU has tools to exert pressure on Beijing and expects “tariffs and protectionist measures” to be introduced, while also warning that China is likely to retaliate. The analysis calls for the EU to prepare for a possible trade war to restore a balanced trade relationship.
