EU Cohesion Policy funding under negotiation for 2028–2034
The European Union's Cohesion Policy is a central focus of negotiations regarding the 2028–2034 budget. This policy aims to reduce economic, social, and territorial disparities between European regions.
For Romania, these funds are a vital source for financing infrastructure, public services, and economic development, including roads, water networks, medical units, and schools. The European Commission has proposed reorganizing how certain funds are administered during the 2028–2034 period, including the introduction of national and regional partnership plans to align investments with development priorities and reforms.
The PPE Group supports maintaining a strong Cohesion Policy with predictable resources and a significant role for local and regional authorities. However, the specific distribution methods, the role of local authorities, and the level of flexibility granted to member states remain subjects of ongoing negotiation.
