EU commercial air traffic reaches 6.9 million flights in 2025

Commercial flights in the European Union reached 6.9 million in 2025, marking a 3.8% increase from the 6.7 million recorded in 2024. According to Eurostat data, this growth brings air traffic levels close to those seen in 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Non-scheduled commercial flights, including charters and special services, accounted for 8.5% of the total volume in 2025. Peak activity occurred during the summer months, with August recording the highest number of operations at 693,046, followed by July and June.

Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands led the EU with approximately 488,000 operations. Other major hubs included Paris-Charles de Gaulle with 476,000 flights and Frankfurt with 457,000. Among the top ten busiest airports, Athens-Eleftherios Venizelos, Madrid-Barajas, and Copenhagen-Kastrup saw the highest proportions of non-scheduled operations.
