EU Commission imposes record €550 million fine on AliExpress for DSA violations

The European Commission has levied a €550 million penalty on the Chinese e‑commerce platform AliExpress, the largest fine ever issued under the EU Digital Services Act (DSA). The Commission said AliExpress failed to adequately assess and mitigate systemic risks, allowing illegal, unsafe or counterfeit products to remain on its marketplace.

The fine must be paid in a single instalment; the Commission will not accept staggered payments. AliExpress has until 20 October 2026 to submit an action plan outlining how it will address the breaches, after which the European Board for Digital Services will review the plan and the Commission will decide on further enforcement measures. The decision follows a two‑year dialogue with the platform and mirrors recent large fines imposed on other tech firms for DSA non‑compliance.
