EU Commissioner Costas Kadis visits Mazara del Vallo for fisheries tour

EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, has launched a tour of Sicilian fishing communities, beginning in Mazara del Vallo during the third edition of the ‘Tesori dal Blu’ event held from September 9 to 11.

Mazara del Vallo serves as a major Mediterranean fishing hub, hosting a deep-sea fleet of over 400 motor trawlers. The event aims to address the intersection of fishing, innovation, culture, and environmental policy. During the visit, Kadis is scheduled to meet with industry representatives, local officials, and national ministry leaders to discuss shared strategies for the Sicilian supply chain and European governance regarding blue economy development.

In a letter to organizers, Kadis emphasized that the visit underscores the territory's importance to European fisheries policy, stating that Europe must build maritime policies from cities like Mazara that integrate sustainability, employment, and culture.
