EU Commissioner Šuica announces Mediterranean university alliance

European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, has announced the launch of an alliance between Mediterranean universities. The initiative aims to foster interreligious dialogue, economic development, and professional training through an infrastructure of exchange between research and educational institutions.

The alliance will focus on key sectors including renewable energy, digital innovation, and migration management. By promoting professional training and talent partnerships, the European Commission seeks to provide young people with the tools to remain in their home territories, addressing the ‘right to stay’ through investment and employment.

Speaking in Strasbourg, Šuica addressed the complex geopolitical landscape, including the Israel-Palestine conflict and crises in Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan. She emphasized the importance of security and prosperity in North Africa and the Gulf regions. Additionally, she highlighted the role of interreligious dialogue as a diplomatic tool for peace, noting the critical situation facing Christian communities in the region.
