EU companies face AI Act compliance risk in CPQ and CLM systems

A survey of 1,500 European executives reveals that one in five leaders do not realize their contract‑life‑cycle (CLM) and configure‑price‑quote (CPQ) tools already incorporate artificial intelligence. Under the EU AI Act, which becomes legally enforceable across member states in August 2026, such systems are classified as high‑risk and must meet strict governance, traceability and audit requirements. Non‑compliance can attract fines of up to €35 million.

Although four‑fifths of respondents say their firms are prepared for the AI Act, the hidden use of AI in CPQ and CLM creates a compliance blind spot. Companies are urged to map AI components, establish clear responsibility, and implement robust data‑integrity and oversight frameworks to avoid penalties and ensure transparent, explainable AI operations.
