EU considers limiting Chinese exports amid trade tensions

The European Union is considering measures to reduce Chinese exports, particularly within the automotive sector, as concerns grow over the EU-China bilateral trade deficit. While China's domestic consumption has been pressured by a real estate crisis, its industrial production continues to grow, leading to a significant increase in exports. In the twelve months leading up to August, China exported approximately 9.4 million passenger cars, representing over 32% of its domestic production.

Simultaneously, a strategic competition between the United States and China is intensifying over artificial intelligence (AI) and economic dominance. While trade tariffs remain a point of negotiation, AI is viewed as a critical factor for national security and global hegemony. The U.S. tech industry relies on Chinese strategic raw materials, while China views AI as a vital tool to bolster its export industry and offset challenges such as a shrinking population and labor market shifts.
