EU Council agrees position to simplify digital and data rules
The Council of the European Union has reached an agreement on a proposal to simplify regulations regarding data protection, privacy, and cybersecurity. The initiative aims to clarify the EU’s digital rulebook to make it more accessible for businesses, public administrations, and citizens while maintaining high standards for personal data protection.
This proposal is a component of the ‘Omnibus VII’ legislative package, which is part of the EU’s broader simplification agenda. The package includes measures to streamline the digital legislative framework and implement harmonized rules for artificial intelligence.
Under the Irish presidency, these measures are intended to reduce administrative burdens and compliance costs, thereby boosting European competitiveness and innovation. The Council is now prepared to enter negotiations with the European Parliament to finalize the framework.
