ESET urges 10‑minute mobile security check to safeguard personal data

ESET, a leading cyber‑security firm, published a concise guide for users to perform a rapid security audit of their smartphones in about ten minutes. The guide stresses that phones store photos, emails, banking apps, work documents and more, making protection essential.

The recommended steps are: update the operating system and all apps; enable a strong lock screen (PIN, password, pattern or biometrics) and set a short auto‑lock timeout; uninstall unused or unknown applications; review and limit app permissions such as access to the microphone, camera, location or contacts; and reduce the overall attack surface by disabling unnecessary services. Mario Micucci, ESET’s Latin America security researcher, explained that these simple actions can detect risks, close unnecessary access points and dramatically lower the chance that a user’s entire digital life becomes vulnerable.

The guide is aimed at mobile users across Latin America and Europe, emphasizing that regular, quick maintenance can prevent many common cyber‑threats.
