EU credibility questioned over Gaza conflict

The European Union has been criticised for its handling of Israel’s actions in Gaza, which have been described as a genocide and systematic human‑rights violations. An EU external action service report acknowledged the violations, yet the bloc did not suspend relations with Israel. The EU’s High Representative presented nine possible responses, including full diplomatic disengagement, but member states remained silent.

Analysts argue this inaction reveals a lack of coherence between the EU’s stated values and its policy, undermining its credibility as a political actor. The criticism also points to broader regional dynamics, noting explicit U.S. support for Israel and passive complicity from many Arab governments, while settlement expansion in the West Bank continues.
