EU crisis reserve to be activated for Italian livestock farms after Confagricoltura's appeal

Confagricoltura has urged Italian Agriculture Minister Giancarlo Lollobrigida to request activation of the European Union's crisis reserve fund in order to compensate livestock farms that suffered indirect damage from animal‑health measures.

The request focuses on pig farms affected by African swine fever, poultry farms hit by avian influenza and ovine/goat farms suffering from bluetongue, covering incidents that occurred between 2022 and 2025. The minister presented the case in Brussels, and the procedure is reported to be close to a positive conclusion, which would allow delayed EU funding to provide indemnities to the affected Italian livestock sector.
