EU Crypto Firms Must Halt Unlicensed Operations by July 1 Under MiCA

The European Union's Markets in Crypto‑Assets (MiCA) regulation sets a July 1 deadline for crypto‑service providers to obtain an EU licence. Only about 20 % of firms operating in the bloc have secured a licence; the remaining 80 % must cease new client onboarding, limit marketing, and wind down services, keeping only essential activities such as returning or transferring client assets.

In Poland, a licence cannot be granted because the national parliament’s president vetoed the relevant law. The Polish finance ministry has advised investors to verify that their holdings are with authorised providers and to arrange refunds or transfers where necessary. Large exchanges that hold licences in other EU states, such as Binance, may continue to operate for Polish customers.

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has warned that any continued unlicensed activity after the deadline will breach EU law.
