EU delegation visits ECOWAS Logistics Depot in Sierra Leone

Representatives from the European Union and various EU member states visited the ECOWAS Logistics Depot (ELD) in Lungi, Sierra Leone, on September 8, 2026. The delegation sought to understand the operational role and facilities of the recently commissioned depot within the ECOWAS regional peace and security architecture.

The visiting group included the Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union Delegation, as well as the Chargé d’Affaires for France and Germany. During the visit, Navy Captain I. J. Akpa, Commander of the ELD, briefed the delegation on the depot's mandate to support peace support operations, humanitarian assistance, and emergency response.

The delegation toured administrative, warehouse, and residential facilities at the depot. This engagement is part of the ELD's ongoing efforts to connect with international partners following its commissioning on July 18, 2026, as it establishes itself as a strategic regional logistics capability.
