EU driving license regulations updated for Class B holders

New European Union regulations regarding driving licenses are set to introduce changes for Class B license holders. According to decisions made by the European Parliament, individuals with a Class B license may soon be permitted to drive vehicles with a total weight of up to 4.25 tonnes, provided they undergo specific training or testing. EU member states have three years to incorporate these requirements into national law, with an additional year for practical implementation.

Currently, Class B license holders can pull light, unbraked trailers up to 750 kg without restriction. For heavier trailers, the combined weight of the car and trailer must not exceed 3.5 tonnes, and the loaded trailer cannot exceed the vehicle's registered unladen weight.

Additionally, the numerical codes found on the reverse of modern card-format driving licenses serve as key identifiers for specific restrictions, requirements, or supplementary information. These codes are regulated by the Driver's License Ordinance (FeV). Two-digit codes are valid across the entire European Union, while three-digit codes are specific to Germany.
