EU e-export rules: New mandatory product coding for Turkish firms
Starting November 1, 2026, Turkish businesses engaged in e-export to the European Union must comply with new customs declaration requirements. The Turkish Ministry of Trade has announced that sellers and manufacturers will be required to declare specific product codes to enhance shipment traceability and facilitate easier verification of product information at EU customs.
The new system mandates the use of two distinct identification codes: the M-PID, which is the code used by the seller on digital marketplaces or websites, and the NS-PID, which is the model, part, or product number assigned by the manufacturer or supplier. While the regulation also recognizes the S-PID (international standard product numbers like GTIN), it does not mandate the acquisition of new barcodes for products that currently lack them.
The Western Mediterranean Exporters' Association noted that while the application has been used voluntarily since July 1, it will transition to a mandatory phase in November. Companies are urged to ensure their product records are accurately matched between sales platforms and customs documentation.
