EU Elevates India to Key Technology Partner to Cut China Dependence

The European Union and India have agreed to deepen their trade and technology cooperation, granting India a formal partnership status second only to the United States. High‑level delegations—including Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Trade Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Electronics Jitin Prasada, and EU officials Henna Virkkunen, Maroš Šefčovič and Ekaterina Zaharieva—met in Brussels to expand the EU‑India Trade and Technology Council.

The partnership aims to diversify supply chains away from China and boost collaboration across semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, supercomputing, 6G networks, electric‑vehicle charging, as well as coordinated efforts in pharmaceuticals, food and energy. The EU intends to finalize the expanded framework before the end of the year, marking a strategic move to strengthen its technological ties with New Delhi.
