EU Entry/Exit System records 160 million crossings and blocks 50,000 entries

The European Union’s new Entry/Exit System (EES) has recorded nearly 160 million border crossings during its first 300 days of operation. The digital system, implemented across approximately 1,500 border crossings in 29 Schengen countries, uses biometric data such as fingerprints and facial scans to verify identities.

According to the European Commission, the system has prevented more than 50,000 unauthorized entries and identified approximately 1,500 individuals posing security risks, including those linked to terrorism, human smuggling, or international arrest warrants. The biometric capabilities have successfully detected individuals traveling under false identities.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, authorities have warned of potential delays at border crossings due to the new EES registration requirements. This coincides with increased traffic and various roadworks across the country, including closures on the Jajce – Crna Rijeka road and sections of the A-1 motorway, prompting calls for travelers to plan accordingly.
