EU regulator adds 15 crypto firms, including BNY Mellon unit, to MiCA register, raising total to 309

On July 24 the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) updated the interim Markets in Crypto‑Assets (MiCA) register, adding 15 crypto‑asset service providers (CASPs) from eight EU jurisdictions and bringing the total number of licensed providers to 309.

The new entries include BNY SA/NV, the Belgian subsidiary of BNY Mellon, which received authorisation for crypto‑custody and transfer services. Germany contributed four new firms – Raiffeisenbank Falkenstein‑Wörth, Spar‑ und Kreditbank Rheinstetten, VR‑Bank Augsburg‑Ostallgäu and JT Technologies. Denmark added three providers – SafeLynx Technologies, Januar and a third firm. Bulgaria and Latvia each added two firms, while Belgium, Cyprus, Liechtenstein and the Netherlands each added one.

Industry executives warn that the ongoing compliance costs associated with MiCA licences could push smaller crypto firms out of the market.
