EU fishing industry reaches 5.5 billion euro value
The total value of fishery products landed in the European Union reached approximately 5.5 billion euros in 2025, a figure nearly identical to the previous year. According to Eurostat, the EU fishing fleets caught an estimated 3.3 million tonnes of fish and other marine organisms across seven statistical maritime areas.
Spain led the EU in both value and volume, accounting for 31 percent of the total landed value and 21 percent of the total catch. France and Italy followed in value with 18 percent and 12 percent, respectively. In terms of catch volume, Denmark ranked second with a 16 percent share, followed by France at 14 percent.
The North-East Atlantic remains the most productive region, accounting for 72 percent of the total EU catch, with herring, blue whiting, sprat, and mackerel being the primary species. The Mediterranean and Black Seas contributed 8 percent of the total catch, where sardines and anchovies were most prevalent. Croatia emerged as one of the top four EU fishing powers in the Mediterranean and Black Sea region, securing a 14 percent share of the catch in that specific area, trailing Italy, Spain, and Greece.
