EU-funded project assists migrant workers in claiming labor rights

The Fair Labour Mobility EU project is providing assistance to millions of European workers who labor abroad and face issues such as unpaid social security contributions, workplace accidents, inadequate housing, and underpayment.

Advisors from eight countries have been engaging with workers, including long-distance truck drivers near Ljubljana, to provide information regarding working conditions, rest periods, and wages. Some drivers report being paid based on daily rates or kilometers traveled rather than through collective bargaining agreements.

The project operates with a 1.2 million euro budget, 90% of which is funded by the European Union. Between 2024 and 2025, the initiative helped nearly 3,000 workers enforce their labor and social rights. This follows the European Commission’s Fair Labour Mobility Package, which aims to accelerate the recognition of qualifications, create a digital wallet for social security documents, and strengthen the European Labour Authority’s ability to combat fraud.
