EU funds FLOWSAFE and Cetaqua water‑innovation projects
The CSIC‑coordinated FLOWSAFE project, backed by €4 million from Horizon Europe, will develop a platform that merges bioremediation, smart sensors and artificial intelligence to accelerate the restoration of flood‑damaged ecosystems. Field trials are planned for the Albufera of Valencia in Spain, as well as sites in Poland and Slovenia, with the aim of improving environmental recovery and administrative response to extreme flood events.
Cetaqua, Veolia’s water‑technology network, will manage five Horizon Europe initiatives—HARMONI, REGENIOUS, BioHAVEN, M‑BAT and HydroPulse—receiving more than €3 million in direct funding and mobilising over €35 million overall. The projects target water‑quality improvement, infrastructure efficiency, circular‑economy approaches and climate‑change adaptation, supporting Europe’s broader sustainability goals for the water cycle.
