EU Grants €109 million to Croatia for geothermal and heat‑pump upgrades

The European Commission and the European Investment Bank have allocated €2.5 billion from the EU Modernisation Fund to 51 energy projects in 11 lower‑income EU member states. Croatia is slated to receive €109 million to support geothermal heating and heat‑pump installations for public institutions, together with an additional €35 million to replace outdated refrigeration, air‑conditioning and heat‑pump systems with energy‑efficient equipment that uses natural refrigerants.

Other beneficiaries in this funding round include the Czech Republic (€516.8 million), Romania (€636.9 million), Hungary (€552.3 million), Poland (€180 million) and several other member states. The funds, drawn from revenues of the EU Emissions Trading System, aim to modernise energy infrastructure, improve efficiency and cut greenhouse‑gas emissions in line with the European Green Deal.
