EU mandates free carry‑on bags for Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz from 2027
The European Commission will enforce new rules on carry‑on baggage that take effect in 2027. Airlines—including Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz Air—must allow passengers one free small cabin bag with the price of the ticket and are prohibited from charging extra for that bag. The rule also bans fees for correcting ticket spelling errors, requires compensation for disabled passengers who miss flights due to airport staff, and permits children under 12 to sit with parents without an additional charge.
According to travel expert Kate Pasola, the regulations apply to EU carriers and to flights between the EU and the United Kingdom, meaning UK airlines such as easyJet will have to implement the same standards. The change is expected to curb the practice of substantially inflating ticket prices by adding mandatory bag fees.
