EU mandates new car safety systems as CARFAX launches used‑car reports in Germany
From July 7 2026, the European Union will require all newly registered cars and light commercial vehicles to be equipped with four additional driver‑assistance systems under Regulation 2019/2144, aiming to improve road safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The rule expands on existing requirements that have applied since 2024.
At the same time, CARFAX Europe is beginning operations in Germany, offering comprehensive vehicle‑history reports for nearly all used cars. The service, which aggregates data from public and private sources, will help buyers detect hidden damage, mileage fraud, recalls and other issues, thereby increasing transparency and confidence in the German used‑car market.
