EU Pet Product Prices Stabilize in June Amid Persistent Service Inflation

In June, consumer price data show that pet product prices across the European Union fell 0.2% month‑over‑month after stabilising in May, while year‑over‑year prices rose 0.5%, according to Eurostat. Veterinary and other pet services recorded a modest 0.1% monthly inflation rate in both the EU and the eurozone.

At the country level, the most pressured markets were Slovakia (1.7% monthly increase), Bulgaria (1.2%), the Czech Republic (0.9%) and Latvia (0.9%). Overall EU annual inflation slowed to 2.9% in June from 3.3% in May, with services contributing the largest share of the price rise (+1.51 percentage points). In the United Kingdom, the Office for National Statistics reported a 0.1% month‑over‑month decline in the CPI for pet products.

Christoph Wunn, Director of Consumer Products and Services at investment bank William Blair, noted that while discretionary categories see pull‑back, consumer spending remains broadly resilient, with price‑sensitivity concentrated in commoditised segments and a shift toward premium and functional pet sub‑categories.
