EU releases €3.2 billion tranche to Ukraine amid €90 billion support plan
The European Commission announced that a first tranche of €3.2 billion will be transferred to Kyiv around mid‑June 2026. The payment is part of a broader €90 billion loan package approved by EU leaders to sustain Ukraine’s war effort and preserve its state finances.
Under the agreement, €60 billion of the total aid is earmarked for military procurement, while €30 billion will cover general budget needs such as hospitals, schools and housing for displaced people. The loan carries no interest and will be disbursed in two instalments in 2026 and 2027, with a priority given to European defence industry contracts.
Ukraine must meet strict conditions, including increasing its own revenue by €6 billion in 2026, and adhering to transparency, rule‑of‑law and anti‑corruption standards. The disbursement is contingent on ratification by the Ukrainian parliament (the Rada). The EU coordinated the program closely with the International Monetary Fund to align fiscal reforms and mitigate default risk.
