EU residential energy efficiency projects stress resident‑centered approach
The European REN+HOMES initiative released its first factsheet, “Resident‑centred methodology for developing positive‑energy residential buildings,” outlining how occupant involvement is crucial for achieving building energy performance. The methodology, tested at pilot sites in Austria, Spain, Estonia and Romania, combines user education, participatory workshops and real‑world testing to bridge the gap between designed and actual energy outcomes.
In parallel, a separate EU‑funded campaign in Moldova promotes modern energy‑saving measures such as Nearly Zero Energy Buildings, heat‑pump systems and renewable energy integration. Implemented by the Soros‑funded Foundation and local partners, the programme aims to lower energy bills, improve thermal comfort and reduce carbon emissions in social‑service housing.
Both initiatives highlight the importance of combining advanced technologies with active resident participation to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability across Europe.
