EU Right to Repair directive enters force to improve appliance repairability

The European Union's Right to Repair directive (Directive (EU) 2024/1799) entered into force on July 30, 2024, aiming to make repairing household appliances and electronics easier, more transparent, and more affordable. The regulation mandates that manufacturers repair specific product groups—including washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators, mobile phones, and electric scooters—if a technical repair is possible. These repairs must be conducted at a reasonable price and within a reasonable timeframe.

In Poland, the implementation of these rules into national law is currently in the legislative process. The government project, designated as UC154, is expected to be presented to the Council of Ministers in the third quarter of 2026, following the deadline for member states to transpose the directive by July 31, 2026.
