EU rolls out European Digital Wallet and Product Passport Registry

The European Union is expanding its digital infrastructure. From 2027, citizens will be able to store their national ID, driving licence and a range of other official documents in a European Digital Wallet on their mobile phones, with member states required to make the service available by the end of 2026.

In parallel, the European Commission has launched a Digital Product Passport Registry to support the EU’s circular‑economy agenda. The registry, created under Regulation (EU) 2024/1781, provides a secure digital record of product information – covering items such as textiles, steel, aluminium, tyres, furniture, ICT equipment and energy‑related products – to improve supply‑chain transparency and help firms demonstrate compliance with eco‑design rules.
