Germany: New consumer credit and tax deadlines in November 2026
Starting November 20, 2026, new EU consumer credit regulations will take effect in Germany, expanding protections to include small loans under 200 euros, interest-free financing, and “buy now, pay later” models. Providers must conduct creditworthiness checks for these transactions to prevent consumer debt traps. Additionally, if credit decisions are made via automated data processing, consumers gain the right to request a human review.
Other significant deadlines in November include the window to apply for income tax allowances for 2027, starting November 1, and the deadline to cancel vehicle insurance contracts for the end of the year. Furthermore, the Euro 7 emission standards will apply to newly approved vehicle types beginning November 29.
