EU Sets New 2026 Car Inspection Standards for ADAS and Electric Vehicles

The European Union has begun revising its periodic vehicle inspection regulations for 2026, extending checks to include advanced driver‑assistance systems (ADAS), electronic safety devices, emissions, and specific components of hybrid and electric cars. The aim is to ensure safety and support environmental sustainability as modern vehicles become increasingly complex.

In Italy, the upcoming summer is expected to see about two million people rent cars between July and September 2026, with more than 22,000 rentals per day at airports, train stations and tourist hubs. The rental market, represented by the mobility association Aniasa (part of Confindustria), has issued a ten‑point guide to help customers avoid common pitfalls, such as booking through reliable channels and verifying what is included in the price.
