EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič to meet Chinese Trade Minister Wang Wen‑tao in Brussels

The European Commission confirmed that Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič will hold talks with Chinese Trade Minister Wang Wen‑tao on 29 June in Brussels. The meeting aims to address growing trade imbalances, as the EU recorded a goods‑trade deficit of roughly €360 billion with China last year.

EU officials said the bloc has intensified rhetoric on Chinese export excesses and is developing a new tool to give member states greater solidarity against unfair trade practices. All EU leaders, except Spain’s prime minister, have backed a tougher stance toward Beijing.

The dialogue is part of a broader EU effort to combine engagement with China while reinforcing mechanisms to curb surging Chinese exports into Europe.
