EU-wide 100 km/h speed limit proposed by economist
Gunther Fehlinger-Jahn, chairman of the Austrian Committee for NATO Enlargement, has proposed a mandatory maximum speed limit of 100 km/h for all motorways and main roads across the European Union.
Fehlinger-Jahn argues that a unified European speed limit would improve road safety by reducing fatal accidents and serious injuries. Additionally, he claims the measure would decrease energy consumption, lower fuel and electricity usage, reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, and minimize noise pollution in densely populated areas.
