EU‑backed Nicosia Youth Days open with music and dance
The 17th Nicosia (Lefkoşa) Youth Days, funded by the European Union, began with a music and folk‑dance programme on İplik Pazarı Street. The event was organised by the EU Information Centre in partnership with the Halk Sanatları Derneği (HASDER). Performances were delivered by the groups “Küçük Balkondaki Büyük Hayaller”, NDN, İntimo and NOKS, while HASDER folk‑dance ensembles showcased Cypriot traditions.
Opening remarks were made by Deniz Birinci, Programme Manager for the EU Commission’s Cyprus Support Unit, and Seden Selen Beyit, co‑chair of the HASDER Youth Club. The programme will continue with a cinema night and discussion on 4 August, media‑literacy and critical‑thinking workshops from 5‑7 August, and a round‑table dialogue with young people on 12 August at the EU Information Centre. Organisers said the series aims to encourage active civic participation, highlight youth achievements and address the challenges young people face.
