Eugene de Kock accuses NPA of failing to prosecute apartheid crimes

Former apartheid-era police colonel Eugene de Kock has testified before the Khampepe Commission of Inquiry that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) failed to pursue senior officials linked to crimes against freedom fighters.

De Kock, who commanded the Vlakplaas-based C10 counter-insurgency death squad, alleged that prosecutors, including former advocate Anton Ackermann, did not approach him for information regarding the chain of command or the senior generals and politicians who allegedly authorized unlawful operations. He stated he was willing to provide evidence on several cases, such as the Cradock Four murders and the Motherwell bombing, but claimed the NPA never sought his assistance.

The commission, chaired by retired Constitutional Court Justice Sisi Khampepe, is investigating allegations of obstruction and delays in the investigation and prosecution of apartheid-era crimes referred by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). De Kock expressed suspicion that a high-level agreement may have existed to cover up these crimes, leaving him to bear sole responsibility.
