Eugenia Photoniata challenges Greek government economic narrative
Eugenia Photoniata, head of political planning for ELAS, has challenged the Greek government's economic narrative, arguing that official indicators do not reflect the lived reality of citizens. Photoniata criticized the administration for suggesting that citizens misperceive their own financial situations despite seven years of governance, a regulated debt, and 36 billion euros from the Recovery Fund.
She highlighted ongoing pressures regarding income, cost of living, housing, healthcare, and education, noting that citizens' perceptions of living better in 2019 may be more accurate than government presentations. This critique follows a political exchange involving Minister of State Akis Skertsos, who dismissed claims that life was better in 2019 as demagoguery and an attempt to romanticize the past.
