Eugenio Facciolla acquitted of forgery charges in Italy

The Salerno Collegiate Court has declared the prosecution's appeal against the acquittal of Eugenio Facciolla, the former prosecutor of Castrovillari, inadmissible. This decision follows a previous ruling on July 18, 2025, which acquitted Facciolla of corruption charges.

The investigation centered on allegations that Facciolla favored the company Stm srl, owned by Vito Tignanelli and Marisa Aquino, in exchange for a SIM card and a video surveillance system between 2016 and 2018. While the corruption charges against Facciolla and the owners of Stm srl have become final, the forgery charge was linked to investigations into alleged criminal ties involving Carabinieri Marshal Carmine Greco during the ‘Stige’ inquiry.

Separately, the Council of State rejected an appeal by the Ministry of Justice and the High Council of the Judiciary (CSM) regarding Facciolla's professional standing. The court upheld the annulment of the CSM's decision to deny Facciolla confirmation in his leadership role at the Castrovillari Prosecutor's Office, citing deficiencies in the original reasoning used to question his independence and balance.
