Eugenio Montale literary tours launched in Genoa and Cinque Terre

To mark the 130th anniversary of the birth of Nobel laureate Eugenio Montale, new literary projects are being launched in the Liguria region of Italy to connect his poetry with local landscapes.

In Genoa, the “Di Genova in Genova” project, promoted by the University and the Municipality of Genoa, has introduced a fourteen-stop itinerary titled “Genova di Montale.” This route traces the poet’s life and work from his birth in 1896 until 1927, covering locations such as Principe Station, Sottoripa, and the Bagni di Quarto. The project includes a digital guide featuring historical photographs and is designed to showcase the city through the lens of his verses.

Simultaneously, the Parco Letterario Eugenio Montale and the Cinque Terre National Park are hosting a series of three literary walks in Monterosso titled “Le domeniche con Montale.” Running from October 18 to December 13, these excursions aim to explore the deep connection between the poet’s work, such as “Ossi di seppia,” and the Mediterranean landscape of the Cinque Terre, which served as a significant inspiration during his youth.
