Eugenio Montoya Sánchez arrested upon deportation to Colombia

Eugenio Montoya Sánchez, known as alias ‘Hugo’, was arrested at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá immediately after being deported from the United States. Montoya Sánchez, a former key member of the North Valley Cartel and brother of the notorious drug trafficker Diego León Montoya (alias ‘Don Diego’), arrived in Colombia under the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Although he recently completed a 19-year prison sentence in the United States for international drug trafficking, Colombian authorities had an active arrest warrant for him. The warrant, issued by the Second Court of Execution of Sentences and Security Measures of Buga, Valle del Cauca, pertains to a 50-month sentence for material falsification of a public document. Additionally, he was listed on an Interpol red notice.

The arrest was carried out by agents from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Interpol (Dijín) in coordination with Migración Colombia and support from the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agency.
