Cincinnati Reds veterans Eugenio Suárez and TJ Friedl clear waivers
The Cincinnati Reds have placed veteran players Eugenio Suárez and TJ Friedl on outright waivers. Both players have since cleared waivers and will remain with the Reds roster.
Eugenio Suárez, a 35-year-old designated hitter, has struggled offensively this season, recording a .208 batting average with 19 home runs and 57 RBIs in 103 games. Despite his recent performance, he recently tied a Venezuelan MLB record by hitting his 10th career grand slam. The Reds are owed approximately $3 million for the remainder of his $15 million contract.
TJ Friedl, a 31-year-old outfielder, also experienced a difficult season, posting a .476 OPS. He remains under team control for the next two seasons. The move comes as the Reds, currently sitting at 63-71, face slim chances for a postseason berth and look toward offseason roster management.
