Lionel Scaloni's mother, Eulalia Marzetti, passes away
Eulalia Marzetti, the mother of Argentina national football team coach Lionel Scaloni, passed away at the age of 74 in Pujato, Santa Fe. She died on Tuesday, October 27, following a prolonged illness that she had been battling for approximately five years.
Marzetti was a respected figure in her community, having served as a municipal justice of the peace in Pujato. She is survived by her husband, Ángel Scaloni, and her three children: Lionel, Mauro, and Corina.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) and its president, Claudio Tapia, issued official condolences to Scaloni and his family. In response to the loss, the AFA has ordered a minute of silence to be observed during football matches this coming weekend, including the Superclásico.
Scaloni had previously spoken publicly about his mother's health struggles, notably during the 2021 Copa América, which he dedicated to her, and during the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. The family has opted for a private funeral service.
