Eumseong County announces 2026 Junggoje National Pansori Competition

Eumseong County is recruiting participants for the 2026 Junggoje National Pansori Competition, scheduled to take place on October 17 at the Hanbit Welfare Center. Now in its third year, the event aims to promote and preserve the cultural value of Junggoje Pansori and the legacy of the master singer Yeom Gye-dal, an intangible heritage of the region.

The competition will be held during the 45th Seolseong Cultural Festival. Applicants can register until October 8 through the Eumseong County website via mail, email, or in-person submission. The contest features four categories: elementary, middle/high school, university/general, and rookie.

Participants will perform a selected piece from the five traditional Pansori repertoires for approximately 10 minutes. A panel of eight professional judges will select 24 winners. Grand prize winners will receive awards from the Chungcheongbuk-do Governor or Superintendent of Education and will be granted a performance opportunity at the Yeom Gye-dal Junggoje Pansori festival on October 17.
