Eumseong County completes heatstroke prevention project for farmers
The Eumseong County Agricultural Technology Center has concluded its 2026 heatstroke prevention project, which targeted vulnerable groups including elderly farmers from June to August. The initiative exceeded its initial goal of 1,200 participants, reaching a total of 1,393 farmers, representing 116.1% of the target.
Through public-private cooperation involving the Korean Red Cross and Dong-A Otsuka, prevention agents conducted 109 field visits to village halls and farming groups. These agents provided education on managing heat-related and musculoskeletal diseases, emergency first aid, and agricultural insurance. Following intensive promotion of safety protocols during severe heatwave warnings, the compliance rate for prevention guidelines among local farmers reached 88%.
Additional safety measures included using drones to broadcast heatwave prevention messages, deploying patrol vehicles, and sending safety text messages to 12,596 individuals. The program also distributed tick repellents and provided legal training on preventing serious accidents to 40 agricultural business owners employing foreign workers.
