Eumseong County targets relocation of public institutions

Eumseong County is intensifying efforts to attract public institutions to the Chungbuk Innovation City as part of the South Korean government’s second phase of regional relocation. Following the government's principle of minimizing metropolitan presence and concentrating agencies within existing innovation cities, the county aims to establish functional clusters that link institutions with local specialized industries.

Key target organizations include the Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK), the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT), and the Korea Fire Institute (KFI). The county argues that IBK would meet the high demand for SME financing among the region's 3,000 companies, while KIAT and KFI would align with local R&D and fire safety infrastructure, such as the National Fire Hospital.

To support relocation, Eumseong has secured 31 cluster sites totaling 179,811 square meters available for immediate occupancy. The county also highlights its young demographic, with an average age of 35.6, as a factor for employee settlement. Local officials are coordinating with Jincheon County and the National Innovation City Association to advocate for these moves before the government finalizes relocation plans in the fourth quarter.
