Eumseong County wins ministerial award at urban innovation expo
The 2026 Korea Urban and Regional Innovation Industry Expo opened on October 30 at Cheongju OSCO. The event, themed ‘A city expected for tomorrow, a local era created together,’ features 270 organizations and 400 booths showcasing urban regeneration policies, smart city technologies, and AI-based urban safety solutions.
During the expo, Eumseong County received the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award in the commercial district recovery category. The award recognizes the Eumseong-eup Market-tong and Yeok-mal urban regeneration projects conducted between 2019 and 2024. These initiatives aimed to revitalize declining downtown areas through infrastructure improvements and support for entrepreneurship.
Data indicates significant growth following the projects: Eumseong-eup visitor numbers rose 23.8% from 2018 to 2024, while total consumption revenue increased by 87%. The county plans to transition facility management to resident-led cooperatives to ensure a self-sustaining commercial ecosystem.
